| Hello, I am new to this server and have only been on for about a week.
I have a question concerning bards and their song. Has there been any modifications to the songs effects at lvls exceeding 20?
I may have had a slight glitch with dirge. The effects from it only seem to work instantaneous and do not have any duration to them. My lvl 18 bard's dirge only works just after casting.

| Bard is one of those classes I never really spent a lot of time. I haven't changed any of the bard songs and don't really know what scripts control them. However, I'm willing to give it a go. Do bards memorize songs like spells, or is this something different? Do they get a certain number of songs per day, or do they get to pick? | |

| Well, bards get 1 song each lvl...so if lvl 37 they can sing up to 37 songs per day. At the moment there are only two songs that can be sung....the regular bard song and a curse song (with the feat curse song). The strength of the song depends on the perform skill and the amount of lvls in the bard class. A bard can chose to sing ether song at anytime and takes 1 round to sing. Effects last 10 rounds, but can go up to 105 rounds with two feats. You can not change the effects of a bard's song from lvl 2-20. I have to say, Bard song gets very weak going into epic lvls, all it does is increase skill rates. The regular bard song gives everyone (not hostile) the bonuses. Curse song mirrors the effects of the regular song, but gives them negative effects to hostile creatures only. I don't know how to script but the notes on the wiki page could point you in the right direction. http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Bard_songI have to say, Bard song gets very weak after bard lvl 16. In epic lvls, all it does is increase skill rates. | |

| Pretty much all spells/effects in NWN are weak beyond level 20 and need to be customized. I'll have to find the area of coding that deals with the bard song and alter it. | |

I have to say, Bard song gets very weak after bard lvl 16. In epic lvls, all it does is increase skill rates. I beg to differ here At Lvl 25 bard (if you have Perform skill of 75+) bard song gives a nice AC bonuses (+6) ...which stacks (dodge bonus). You can't get the long lasting (100 rounds) bard/curse songs until you have 21 levels of bard (the extra 5 rounds from the other feat is a waste of a feat). The skill bonus a Lvl 25 bard gets is +14. With this added to their Taunt skill, and an enemy's Concentration skill reduced by -13 (curse song) and AC reduced by -6 (curse song). They can suffer huge AC drops from a curse/taunt combo Also with an enemy's AB reduced by 2 from curse, a high level bard is welcome in my party any time in d15/d16!

| When taken into account and comparison alongside Barbarian Rage modifications, bard song is highly underpowered. At level 1, barbarian rage gives 100 bonus HP, around 10-15 bonus AB, STR, CON boosts, damage reduction and spell resistance of 11. I would actually rather like to see bard songs, and bard only spells improved, to make a bard a more welcome addition to any party. | |

there's only one downside to that rage.... it ends after barb looses that bonus HP, imagine how quickly it ends in high Dungeons.

| Those bonuses were just the benefits from the level 1 barbarian rage. And, the only thing lost after losing the temporary Hp, is the temporary HP. Rage lasts its full length still. | |

| OK -- yes, it does sound like barbarian rage has improved greatly compared to bard song. But bard song increases the stats of everyone (in range) when the song is sung -- very powerful in big groups. While my bard would love to see it increased, it would quickly become overpowering in party with some of the already powerful barbarians out there, hehe. The Barbarian rage stat bonuses do not stack above the +12 cap, so at higher levels they may not be particularly useful. I'd be very surprized if the barbarian AB bonus stacks above the usual +20 cap. The bardsong bonus AB does not stack with the +20 cap. At Lvl 26, and with 80 perform, my bard gives +40 bonus HP. If I sing in an area with 10 players, they each get +40 HP ...it doesn't sound like much much, but with everyone being that little bit tougher, you're more likely to win than lose | |
