Some of the regulars still stop by occasionally, but it's been very slow. With the Far East Server still not showing up on Bioware's master server, I'm giving serious thought to shutting it all down (both US and the server in Japan). There's little reason to spend the hours programming custom content. For those of you who are still around, what do you think? I promised to keep it going so long as players still want it, so what do you say?

BTW, I don't plan to ever distribute any of the custom scripting. Sorry, but I want to head that off before someone else asks.

With all the new updates made, I have actually been playing a lot more often than I used to. I'm loving the site and loving what you have done and are doing. With it being the Holidays many of the regulars may just be busy and just havn't found the time to play. It would be a shame to see KT go down. Keep up the good work it is much appreciated. Maybe after the Holidays the regulars will be back.

The deal with the master server continues to discourage me. Whenever I check the logs, it says there's no reply from the master server. Yet, all the necessary ports are open and forwarded and players have no trouble seeing the server in history once they log on. I believe the master server is hosted by GameSpy, but they replied that they have no control over it. I'm guessing Bioware supplied the software and GameSpy only hosts it. I don't want to transition to NWN2 only to find out my server won't show up on the NWN2 master server either.

I just don't find anything else out there that replaces NWN. Dragon Age seemed to be the right thing, but no multi-player. I like the class system on Dragon Age and have never really like D&D after it kept adding obscure classes like the Harper. All of those classes could have been handled by fighter, cleric, mage with appropriate feats to specialize in.

I always say I'll keep KT running so long as players keep showing up. Without new players, the server becomes stale. Players like WH, as pathetic as he was, always make things interesting.

If you bring KT and/or KT2 down, may I question as to WHY you won't give it to anyoen else to host?

Well then, if the remainder of the time I spend on the server is going to be for naught: I quit.

This is one of the big reasons I left. Sarah strikes me as a greedy, arrogant person. He's holding his modules and, regardless, excellent work back for one of two reasons:

1) They are HIS modules and therefore only HE can have them. (Greed)
2) Nobody else is good enough to host HIS modules. (Arrogance)

Aside from the fact that all of his players are backstabbing ASSHOLES, he refuses to administer punishment for bad behavior of his *star* players.

Don't bother playing on the server anymore, it'll just be a waste of time if he's bringing it down.

I was getting to that myself.

I know you have a server, I'll go play it.

Go ahead and bring the server down Sarah: my friends and I could care less from this point forward.

By keeping it up with the intent to bring it down, you're just going to piss off a lot of newer players that start, think they're getting somewhere, then bringing it down.

It's not greed to keep one's own property. The custom scripting that I spent years working on and the ideas incorporated in it are my own. I own a lawful copy of the game with user rights to the Bioware scripts therein (legally entitled to run a server). Everything else is entirely my own work. **CORRECTION** I have implemented a few ideas from players. Thanks Nuli, Nameless, and others. Abriymoch, I believe, gave me the idea to speed up rest. Thanks for that. However, all the scripting and crafting to implement these concepts is my own.

Werehound, if your server runs original scripting of your own work and imagination, are you ready to distribute it in the public domain? Are you willing to have several other servers suddenly show up running the same module? What if you ever decided to start running it again?

If your answer is yes, you are certainly entitled to do with your work what you want with it. I would never ever criticize you for doing whatever you wanted to do with your own server and module! Even if you are willing to pass your original creations around, it doesn't give you the moral right to tell me what to do with my work.

If your answer is no, then why criticize me?

As for your contention that I don't punish *star* players, I rarely get feedback that someone is acting up. The last person, a long time player, was banned. Yes, I did later reinstate him after the matter was settled amicably, but I did act to keep peace. I think you submitted some complaints at some point, but I didn't act on them. I apologize for that.

Abriymoch, I did not say I was shutting the server down. I was thinking about shutting it down due to lack of use, and I asked what people thought of the idea. If players still want it, I have promised several times to keep it going and I will. I'd run the server for Darksky alone if she still wanted it there.

The server and module are my hobby, not my life. I try to make it a challenging and rewarding experience for everyone who plays, but I'm not perfect. It's not arrogance to run my own server and control the content of my own module as I see fit. To me, it's the height of arrogance to come on a server that I work and pay for and call me arrogant for scripting it as I like. That would be like me coming to your house as a guest and complaining about the color of your sofa or the size of your TV.

I doubt you two will ever see it from my perspective, but I'm posting it nevertheless. Play the server if you want. Leave it if you don't. Thank you.

This comes off as "I don't care if it's my module. If people want to play it, they will have to play it when I host it or not at all. They can only enjoy my work if I want them to."

Thanks, but I think you just reinforced Werehound's first posit.

Abriymoch, I didn't think you'd understand. When you have spent years working on something, maybe then you'll understand. I'm conservative. I believe in a person's right to their own property and work.

Do you know the story behind DungeonX? It started because I was an avid player of Dungeon Crawler. Years ago, that server kept crashing so I offered to host it for the author and promised not to distribute it. Ragnar didn't want that, so I started working on my own module.

You know what? I don't blame Ragnar one bit. Once I disagreed with how he was running his server, I took appropriate and moral action. I didn't call him arrogant or selfish. I started work on DungeonX. About 4-5 years of learning the various Bioware scripts/functions/effects and doing my own custom work, you have Knights Templar.

As I wrote, people have the right to use their own property as they see fit. It's called liberty, and there is absolutely nothing immoral about it. In fact, it's immoral to try to force people to share their work or call them names (thanks, Werehound) for not behaving as you see fit. Yeah, I'm not into the Obama wealth redistribution crap either.

BTW, I have ALWAYS offered to explain how to write the scripts and use the functions and have done so many times. I'm just not going to spend days, weeks, or months figuring something out, writing scripts, and then just hand it all over to someone else.

Your example is moot, as Ragnar DID hand over Dungeon Crawler.

And as a side note:

Even should YOU stop hosting and give it to someone else, it's still evidence of how hard you work. I don't see why you're acting like once you give it to someone to let your server live on, it's no longer your server and all of your hard work no longer applies.

That is so not true. Your work is distinctive and recognizable: no one can ever take that away.

It's a moot point anyway, because the server stays up so long as players use it. Some folks want to play, so I'm not going to violate my promise to them.

As for Ragnar, it was his to keep or give away as he saw fit. That's the point. Whether he gave it away or not has no bearing whatsoever on what other scripters decide to do with their work.

Abriymoch, I bear you or no other player ill will. I try to implement your suggestions when I can. You are always welcome to come or go. Obviously, I want players to use and enjoy my work. That's what started this thread in the first place. Take care, and have a happy new year!

I'm attempting to set up the US server to automatically port everyone here. The Far East server is at 219.109.227.16:5121. I apologize, but all existing characters on the US server will not be able to port over. The KT and KTII items and scripts are substantially different. I'm not deleting the US characters, but I don't know if I'll be able to transfer them here. The benefit of this is that there will only be one KT server left, so hopefully anyone still on the US server will make the switch AND we'll start seeing some new players.

The US server is now running a slightly modified version of DX2. It will show up as Dungeon X on the master server list (I removed the version number as it's irrelevant now).

It's a complete module, but I added a statue to give players an option of coming to the Knights Templar server in Japan. I'm hoping this will give players a chance to find whatever suits them best, but I am only working on Knights Templar. Please don't submit Dungeon X comments/complaints here other than problems related to the Dungeon X to Knights Templar portal.

Dungeon X is a substantially easier module to play. Knights Templar was always meant to be more challenging.

Just finished a lot of the new cloak coding for KT. You can already add a variety of shapes. Soon you'll be able to add a skill bonus, an ability bonus, damage resistance, a saving throw bonus, and the ability to cast a spell. The power of the enchantments depend on the skill of the NPC making the cloak. For example, Darla (in the Templar Outpost) adds low-level properties, like strength +1 or cast Haste once per day. Other NPCs will be able to add more effective properties.

As it stands right now, you can add one each of the five listed properties. However, you cannot add multiple properties of the same type, like strength +1 and dexterity +1. You can also add a shape change effect if you wish. I haven't decided if I'll allow players to alter cloaks that are part of sets. Set items are already more powerful (for the level required) than other items.

The price for adding properties seems reasonable to me, although it gets more expensive for the more powerful enchantments. The prices are set so that you can't craft a cloak and then sell it for a profit (sorry). Of course, it's possible I made an error somewhere, so please report it if you find a way to exploit the pricing.

The changes will show up in the next update, sometime this week (before Jan 16).

Sarah I say keep it up and running. People are having problems because of Bioware being down.

You also have put allot of time and money into this server and I know that you also enjoy playing on it. There have been allot everlasting friendships made because of your server. It is our home please dont make us homeless.

As far as letting someone else have your hard work I agree with you. If they want a server let them build their own. If they like yours so much let them play on it. I know for a fact that it takes many long hard brain racking hours to build a server let alone keep it running and trying to please everyone.

I will be back to play when bioware fixes thier problem. It may be a ghost town right now but that will change.

Knights Templar an ancient order going back to the Crusades. In the century the great master of the order was married to Katherine St Clair and two of the greatest masters of century were members of the St. Clair family. Since the order was persecuted by the Pope during the first 14 century some of the knights fled to Scotland where Robert the Bruce was excommunicated and not to prohibit that order. The chapel has a central location in the movie The DaVinci Code based on the book by Dan Brown.
